Most of southern Alberta has an Air Quality Index at the 10 level, which is “very high risk”. See below. As a result, the following accommodations were made today:

Reminder: This Friday will be our last day of book exchange for the year. Make sure you bring in any old books from home so that you are able to get a book for next week!
This week in Math we are wrapping up our division unit. Grade fours will have a few more days to practice division than the grade threes, as their Program of Studies deals with higher numbers.
In Language Arts, students began a task that will span over the next few weeks. They have been looking at a wordless picture book (the identity of the book is concealed as to not give away any spoilers!) and are creating their own little stories to go with the pictures. Students have been challenged to think about perspective in pictures, as well as the emotion that pictures can show. Over the last week and a half we have been skipping our hearts out in Phys Ed! Students have learned a variety of tricks and gained confidence in their skipping ability. Many are even taking jump ropes outside and skipping at recess! This week the whole school is participating in a door decoration challenge. Our theme is a blend of our love for the environment, and our incredible multicultural family we have in room 20! The winning class gets a prize of a popcorn and movie party on Thursday! Reminders: Granary Road Field trip forms were sent home last Friday. They are due back to school Thursday May 16. No school Friday- PD Day :) Mrs. Rowein Rosscarrock School held our Heart & Stroke Foundation JUMP Rope For Heart assembly this morning. Students had the opportunity to learn about the importance of heart health and the ways that skipping can provide a quick and effective fitness workout. Skipping activities will take place during Phys Ed classes, and we would like to offer the opportunity for students and families to fundraise online and collect donations for heart disease and stroke research.
For students and families that may be interested in fundraising, students will receive a donation envelope. For your convenience, there is also an online option for collecting donations. Thank you for your support! How to get started 1. Visit JumpRopeForHeart.ca and Register for JUMP 2. Set up your personal fundraising page 3. Send donation request emails to friends, family and colleagues If you need assistance, please visit JumpRopeForHeart.ca and check out the instructional videos and step by step “how-to” resources. Another week is well on its way in room 20!
In Math, students are continuing to explore and practice division. Grade 4's have been learning strategies to divide larger numbers, and also experimenting with remainders. In Language Arts, students are wrapping up their Literature Circles. On Friday, everyone will be sharing their final projects in a gallery walk, where they will have the opportunity to tell their peers about their book. We have also been reading and writing lots of poetry over the last two weeks. Students have shown a major interest in listening to poetry, and we have lots of new favorite poems! It is also clear that we have some very talented young poets in the class! In Social Studies, students have continued research for their protect "A Brief History of Alberta," which showcases important events in Alberta's past 100 years. Next week they will begin creating their timelines to share their understanding. Jump Rope for Heart will be a focus in our school beginning next week. We've been skipping lots in Phys. Ed, and already I've seen plenty of growth from any kids! Skipping is an easy and inexpensive way to get active. I encourage everyone to try skipping at home. Maybe students will be able to teach their parents a thing or two! Thanks to all the grade 3 and 4 runners who came to running club today. Friday Reminders: yoga, spelling test, and library. :) Mrs. Rowein Follow @rosscarrock on Twitter for updates on all the wonderful learning happening here at school :)
