Hello room 20!
It has been a very strange week for me and I’m sure it has also been very different for you as well. I miss being in class with you, seeing your designs and ideas for constructing new cars or structures. I encourage you not to stop creating bridges and cars just because you are at home but to continue to build, explore, and play with the materials you might have at home. As the weather gets nicer, go outside for a walk or to play in the snow. You are all such bright lights and I hope you continue to be positive through all of this. Help siblings, parents, or friends with poor attitudes to look at things differently. Use your imaginations when you become bored and come up with creative things to do at home. You can learn so much from the world around you just by paying attention and asking questions. I miss each one of you and hope you’re doing well. This has been a great change for us and I hope you are having a positive attitude through it all. Send me an email to say hi, get your prodigy password, or ask me a question at [email protected] P.S. I hope you’re not playing too much Roblox.

We thank the government for listening to school boards and parents to support the health and safety of students, staff and families.
Please do not send your students to school Monday, March 16, 2020 and until further notice. Before and after school programs are also cancelled. Staff will be available at each school to ensure that, if students show up, parents will be contacted and expected to pick up their child immediately. More information will be sent to you in the coming days with details on when to pick up personal belongings, return library books, etc. Schools will create a pick up schedule which will be communicated to parents. Please note that yellow school buses and other specialized transportation will not be running tomorrow. Alberta Education has stated that every K-12 student will receive a final mark and students will progress to their next grade level next year. Provincial assessments, such as provincial achievement tests, will be cancelled. At this time, diploma exams essential for post-secondary acceptance will continue. Every student who is eligible to graduate from Grade 12 this year will graduate. We will continue to work with Alberta Education on these details. In the coming days, the CBE will be providing more information and supports for online learning, as appropriate. The government has also indicated that teachers and other staff are expected to work, either from their school or workplace. Spring break will continue as scheduled. During spring break, school buildings will be closed and school-based staff will not be working during this time. We know you have many questions. We will continue to update you as more details are confirmed. Thank you for your patience and support. Based on the changing provincial and local response to COVID-19, the CBE has given us direction to postpone our Parent Teacher Conferences (Student-led Open House) scheduled for March 18 & 19, 2020. If your child’s teacher has scheduled an appointment on Thursday March 19, 2020, your child’s teacher will call you at your appointment time, please make sure you are available at that time. All CBE schools have been given direction to postpone or cancel events that include populations from other schools and/or parents or other community members, such as Parent-Teacher Interviews, celebrations of learning, drama/musical performances, dances, athletic competitions, etc. This decision is effective from Mar. 12 until the end of March break. This decision will be revisited during March break to determine whether events should be rescheduled. Events outside of school hours that include the regular student and staff population of the school (school clubs, practices, etc) and scheduled field trips may continue at this time. I know this may be disappointing news. Students and staff have spent a significant amount of time preparing for this event, but the health of our community is our priority. For the most up to date information about the CBE’s approach to COVID-19 and the actions we are taking, please visit our website. Answers to frequently asked questions will continue to be posted as information becomes available. Thank you, Brenna Fraser |
