Today in Math, students were introduced to subtraction with regrouping. It was a topic that was very challenging for many, particularly once I introduced the traditional algorithm. Parents can support their child at home by making practice questions for subtraction, and encouraging their child to solve it in the way that is easiest for them. An assessment was sent home today from our previous number sense and addition unit.
Our Science stories are in full swing now! Most students were able to complete the planning stage of their Diary of an Animal. It is proving to be tricky to not only plan an interesting story, but connect scientific fact to those story plans! On Wednesday, we have a pet bunny visiting our classroom. If all goes well, she will continue to come to school while we have our Animal Life cycles unit so students can learn to care for an animals needs. We have had many discussions about treatment of animals and the responsibility a pet brings. Students will earn their time with our pet by showing me they are responsible, respectful, and trustworthy. Today we had a lockdown practice. I have to say, it was the best practice I have ever seen from a group of students! Students new exactly what to do and took the drill seriously. Great job! Our school Remembrance Day assembly is Friday, and our class is responsible for planning it! Two students will be the masters of ceremonies, and our whole class will be singing as well as making a display for the assembly. Reminders: Photo retakes Wednesday! New spelling words went home today- practice them throughout the week! :) Mrs. Rowein.
