Happy New Year to all students and families! After a restful break, we were excited to get back in the classroom!
This month in Language Arts, students will be working on gaining more independence with larger writing tasks. We will continue to focus on some common writing themes, such as vocabulary building, sentence structure, and mechanics in our writing. During the first half of the year in Social Studies, students learned all about the geography of Alberta, Alberta's natural resources, and ways that Albertans live off the land. Over the next six weeks, we are going back in time, to learn about the traditional way of life of Alberta's Indigenous people. As many may know, we no longer have a music specialist in the classroom. Students were given a survey and have chosen to focus on dance, singing, and using technology to mix and create music during their normal music block. Music will not be reported on next term. In Health last semester, we focused heavily on the three pillars or care, goal setting, and kindness. This semester, we will be learning more of the physical elements of health- starting with swim safety. Students new Science unit this month is all about building things! Students will get to experiment with a variety of materials and designs. In Math, students will continue to cycle back to number sense and operations. This month, they will be covering their measuring unit. Parents can support their children at home by providing opportunities to measure things around the house. For example, measuring distances, heights, wights, baking quantities- the opportunities are endless! We are looking forward to the second half of the year! :) Mrs Rowein and Mr Abma
