In case you didn’t know, the Calgary Public Library gives you access to ebooks through the LIBBY. A Library assistant at another school learned something interesting about LIBBY, which I’m passing on to you in case you didn’t know either. If a reader with Dyslexia is using LIBBY to read ebooks, they can go into ‘Reading settings’ and click “OpenDyslexic”, which will change the font. Some of the picture books may not have that option, but novels and some non-fiction definitely do. LIBBY allows you to read a book in the browser, so it’s not tied to a specific device. In case you didn’t know, there is a kid’s version of LIBBY, so they don’t have to wade through lists of psychological thrillers to find something they can read.
If you’ve used the CPL’s Overdrive app, you will already know how to use LIBBY. Access to LIBBY can be found here: https://calgarylibrary.ca/read-learn-and-explore/eresources/?audience=kids Under the “eReading Room for kids” option. That link will take you to a list of other interesting resources like National Geographic kids, Science Reference Centre, Bookflix, and others. Just put in your CPL card information, or a student’s, and off you go.
