This week in Math will be cllllll about division! I have been impressed at how fast students have caught on to division- especially my grade threes who are new to this operation! When learning about division, we focused on similar strategies that were introduced during multiplication, including equal groups, arrays, and repeated addition. Today we discussed multiples, and students began to make connections between their multiplication and division facts.
In Language Arts, students continue to work in their literature circles. Many groups are getting close to finishing their novels! Daily responses are being used to assess students understanding of their reading. In Science, students have now finished their persuasive letters to Mrs. Fraser, convincing her to allow us to start a classroom compost program. We realized that food waste in landfills is a huge issue in Alberta, and that as a school, there are few opportunities to compost our food waste. Our focus is now shifting to plastic waste. Today, students learned about the harmful affects on animals and bodies of water when plastic is not recycled properly. For Friday, all students must collect as much plastic as they can to use for our recycled plastic art sculptures. :) Mrs. Rowein
