The past two days in Math, students have been learning how to round to the nearest ten or hundred. They have been using number lines to give them a concrete visual, and have learned "rounding rules" for those who are better with more abstract thinking.
In Social Studies, students are practicing their scripts for their iMovies. They have learned how to save pictures, upload them into iMovie, and time their slideshow. With part of our focus on voice, we began a Reader's Theatre activity yesterday. Pairs of students were assigned an Elephant and Piggie book. They used what we have learned about speaking, and practiced reading in a way that was expressive and captivating for the audience. Then, they took a seat in the comfy teacher's chair and read to the class. It has been so wonderful to listen to! Reminders: Spelling test tomorrow! Please study!

I had an incredible weekend away, but was happy to be back in routine today with the kids of Room 20! I will be changing my name now, and students can refer to me as Mrs. Rowein. (row-vine)
In Math, students continue to work on ordering numbers, and have been introduced to number lines. In Social Studies, students worked on developing their scripts for their upcoming Social Studies iMovies. We talked about using specific language, and fully explaining our ideas about the pictures that we would like to include. In Phys Ed, we started our soccer skills unit. First up is learning passing and dribbling, with a focus on controlling the ball. In Language Arts, I had students assess me as I read a story to them, and give me pointers on how to make my voice more interesting to the reader. We will be doing lots of activities around speaking this week! After recess we had computers. Students learned how to search for and save images. Once again, this activity was in preparation to put together their iMovies later in the week. It was a crazy day with this early snow storm! Please make students are wearing appropriate clothing for the weather: warm jacket, snow pants, snow boots, mitts and hat. Today I sent home Friday's spelling test, as well as a picture day form. :) Mrs. Rowein |
